FERCAM receives its first eActros 600

A synergy between cutting-edge vehicle technology and advanced infrastructure development

[Bolzano, 26 May 2025] – Nearly at the same time as the inauguration of the first 1MW charging point for heavy-duty vehicles, built by Alpitronic along the Brenner motorway, FERCAM has taken delivery of its first Mercedes-Benz eActros 600. This innovative electric truck for long-haul transport marks a significant step forward toward sustainable, zero-emission logistics on Europe's most important north-south corridor.

Looking ahead: long-haul electrification at FERCAM
FERCAM began its journey toward electrification in long-haul transport two years ago with the introduction of the eActros 300, used primarily for short-distance routes due to its limited range.
With the new eActros 600, the company is making a decisive qualitative leap: thanks to its 621 kWh battery capacity and range of up to 500 km without recharging, the vehicle is fully suitable for long-distance transport, offering performance comparable to that of a diesel truck.
"The delivery of our first eActros 600 symbolically completes a circle that began for FERCAM on 21 November 2017 with the order of the Tesla Semi," says CEO Hannes Baumgartner. "The eActros - just like the Tesla promises back then - is a vehicle designed from the ground up to be electric. It’s not a retrofit of a diesel truck but a vehicle specifically developed for electric propulsion".

Future-ready technology: MCS charging and high performance
The eActros 600 is already configured for ultra-fast charging using the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard, although it currently operates with the CCS system. The vehicle’s robust technical platform, optimized for long distances and high energy efficiency, makes it ideal for challenging routes such as the Brenner corridor.
Coinciding with the delivery of the eActros 600, the first one-megawatt charging station in Italy was inaugurated in Firmian, near Bolzano, along the Brenner motorway. Built by Alpitronic, this installation represents a turning point for heavy-duty transport electrification, significantly reducing charging times and improving electric logistics efficiency.
"One-megawatt charging is a game changer for long-distance transport", highlights Johann Friedrich Harder, Corporate Fleet Director at FERCAM, "because it allows extremely fast charging times and therefore greatly enhances the operational capacity of electric trucks".

The benefits of ultra-fast charging for trucks are clear: the battery capacity of an electric truck typically ranges from 300 to 600 kWh, depending on the model and manufacturer. The larger the battery, the longer the range.

"The eActros 600 at FERCAM will primarily be used along the Brenner route for cargo destined for Daimler, actively contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions along this strategic artery and sending a clear signal for sustainable logistics in our Alpine region", concludes Harder.

With this investment, FERCAM strengthens its decarbonization strategy for road freight transport. The high-power charging infrastructure, now being expanded, enables the company to efficiently integrate electric vehicles even in its most demanding operational areas.
"The deployment of the eActros 600 demonstrates that the future of sustainable logistics is already here. We are proud to take this step with Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Alpitronic, and the Brenner motorway operator, making a tangible contribution to the green transition in the sector", concludes Baumgartner. "We also thank local political representatives who have recognized the benefits of this technology and supported the infrastructure solutions that make this transformation possible".
