FERCAM wins the "Logistics Provider of the Year 2024" award
(Bolzano, November 29, 2024) The South Tyrolean transport and logistics company FERCAM has been awarded the prestigious "Logistics Provider of the Year 2024" title, a recognition instituted by Assologistica, for its sustainable logistics project aimed at the concrete reduction of CO2 emissions. In 2023, FERCAM achieved a reduction of 10,289,334 kg of CO2 emissions.
The award ceremony was held today in Milan at the prestigious Palazzo Mezzanotte, the seat of the Italian Stock Exchange, where Assologistica presented the “Logistics Provider of the Year 2024” award, one of the most anticipated events in the national logistics sector.
Now in its 20th edition, the award is presented annually by Assologistica to companies that have distinguished themselves for innovative or virtuous projects in the field of transportation and logistics.
Award for “Innovation in Environmental Sustainability”
FERCAM received the prestigious recognition in the "Innovation in Environmental Sustainability" category for its commitment to environmental sustainability and, specifically, for the tangible results achieved with its “Refueling vehicles with HVO biofuel” initiative.
Luca Bono, FERCAM’s Import/Export Department Manager, was present to accept the award, expressing satisfaction for the appreciation and formal recognition of the company’s efforts by a highly qualified jury.
«We are very proud of this award for ‘Innovation in Environmental Sustainability,’ as stated on the recognition plaque, which confirms the effectiveness of our initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of our logistics services. We are working on multiple complementary fronts: fleet renewal, intelligent and rational use of resources, and the transition to ecological fuels and powertrains», said Luca Bono.
FERCAM acknowledges that carbon neutrality in heavy transport will require a mix of technologies and non-fossil fuels. The company’s commitment to experimenting with sustainable fuels such as HVO, Bio-LNG, and Bio-CNG has significantly reduced emissions and improved energy efficiency. FERCAM's goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
In December 2021, the company inaugurated an HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) refueling station in Bolzano to begin a trial period using this fuel in selected vehicles and routes. HVO is a renewable fuel, odorless, colorless, and compatible with diesel engines. It is made from vegetable oils derived from waste materials such as straw, algae, organic waste, and agricultural clippings, excluding palm oil, and does not interfere with the food supply chain. This innovative biofuel contributes to the immediate decarbonization of the transport sector, maintaining engine performance and utilizing existing infrastructure.
Tangible Results of the Award-Winning Initiative
In 2023, FERCAM expanded the use of biofuel, initially introducing it exclusively in 50 new vehicles equipped with tanks capable of covering up to 3,000 km, before extending it to the entire fleet. Last year, the company’s owned vehicles traveled a total of 9,182,487 km using HVO, resulting in a CO2 emission reduction of over 10 million kg. Currently, FERCAM has two refueling stations with a capacity of 40,000 liters each, in Bolzano and Sommacampagna, and today 95% of all diesel transport operations are carried out using HVO.
